Santiago

Today is a national holiday in Spain. They celebrate their patron saint Santiago. This is the Santiago you hear of when people refer to the pilgrimage through the Northern part of Spain. This pilgrimage is walked and biked by millions of people each year. The main one starts in southern France and goes along the northern coast of Spain; however you can walk to the end point from anywhere in Spain. The end point of this path is in Galicia, which is the north eastern region of Spain, in the city Santiago de Compostela. This is where the pilgrimage ends. In all of the major cities of Spain you will find seashells that look almost like stars that point to Santiago de Compostela which is to help guide pilgrims on their way to the city. This pilgrimage is said to haven been taken by Saint Santiago so it holds a lot of special meaning to Spaniards and catholics through out the world. I would really like to do it sometime and I think it would be really nice to do it with my Mom. Maybe someday :)

Today every store was closed. It was so deserted when I came outside to hang out by the river. I had a really nice and relaxing day. I just laid out at the river with my friends and studied while listening to my favorite Spanish music. I am really starting to get sad that I am going to be leaving soon so I am trying to enjoy each moment. I love Spain and will miss it very much.

Oh also today I watched mass with my seƱora. I have been talking and hanging out with her a lot lately and it is really helping me with my Spanish. I think she really enjoyed my company this morning because she was smiling and making jokes and couldn't stop talking haha even though she was suppose to be watching the mass. It was nice and then after we talked a lot at lunch. The thing I am going to miss the most about Spain is being surrounded by the language. It can be frustrating at times but it helps me learn so much more. I take for granted that I read it every where I go and I hear it on the news at every meal. I decided I am going to have to read spanish newspapers and go the spanish mass at SMSP to stay in the spanish bubble.
