Today I woke up and headed to a church near Megan’s place. I was excited to experience church in a foreign country. I was pretty disappointed though. I guess I expected people here to be even more vigilant but it was quite the opposite. Everyone in mass seemed distracted and were not paying much attention. No one prayed on their knees after receiving communion. It was odd. There weren’t anyone between the ages of 10 and 50 so we got some odd looks. It makes me sad because there are so many beautiful churchs here and this country is supposed to be known for a strong religious backbone but I don’t see it at all. There is no one from my generation that goes to church. It made me sad. I miss church at home because I feel like I can focus and I couldn’t today. I want to learn the prayers in Spanish though so I can say them while at mass. Next week I am going to try someplace new so maybe it will be a better experience.
